The Sunless Citadel, Session 5

Participants

What follows derives from my (Chris Carter's) log. I've removed extraneous server messages and some instances of whisper, though others may be left in for context. Entries marked with "11" are from the OOC chatter channel.

Jason was unavailable for this session, so the part of Karnak was played by Bruce.

<Bruce> Jason didn't actually get back to me this morning, but it looks like his lunchtime commitment did come to pass.
*** BA2 connected at Sat Jan 18 12:06 PM PST from conrail.cs.columbia.edu.
*** BAgame has joined channel 11 [Saturday D&D chatter].
*** BAgame has joined channel 10 [Saturday D&D].
*** BAgame is now known as Liatus.
* Liatus needs the url for Jason's webpage again.
<Bruce> Dan's showering and will be along shortly. Jason had something demand his presence at lunchtime, but we discussed Karnak's behavior last night. The plan is that he'll mostly do what Meridius suggests, given how well his own ideas didn't work out.
<Bruce> http://members.shaw.ca/ogier/dandd.htm
<Bruce> For those playing along at home, that page has stats for the characters, though not yet altogether updated to reflect the fact that Chris' fighter leveled up last time.
<Mikki> Oo. =)
<Bruce> Also, for the benefit of bystanders: the PCs are in the ass end of nowhere northwestern frontier of a fantasy Roman empire, and have agreed to go seek out some missing local villagers and investigate general badness. Hence their being most of the way through the first level of the Sunless Citadel.
<Mikki> Was I here for the last session or the one before that? It was the same group...
<Meridius> Folks who want to look at logs of the prior sessions or see Meridius' character sheet may go to http://www.q7.com/~carter/rpg/ to see.
<Bruce> We've got the soldier on detached status, the priest of the cult of the Imperial Presence, the young monk playing hookie and looking for adventure (which he's read all about!), and the sorceress who decided that some unauthorized travel beat a rotten arranged marriage.
<Mikki> Thanks, Chris.
<Mikki> Geez, you guys've been busy. It was only your second session I eavesdropped on, and this is, what, your fifth already?
<Liatus> I still think Karnak needs to find a small leather bound tomb with the words "Tales of the Aeon Society" and "10 cp" on the cover.
*** Silana connected at Sat Jan 18 12:18 PM PST from conrail.cs.columbia.edu.
*** Silana has joined channel 10 [Saturday D&D].
*** Silana has joined channel 11 [Saturday D&D chatter].
<Bruce> BA, :)
<Bruce> By the way, for anyone counting: a total of five more goblins will let you all level up. :)
<Bruce> And I have decided to just go ahead and apply all level gains immediately. It's not realistic, but then leveling up isn't easier, and I think it's fun to suddenly become cooler.
* Meridius rarely tries to put the word "realistic" and D&D in too close of proximity.
<Bruce> All right, the PCs have gotten some approximation of rest, and regained hp and spells. The gnome Ercaius is willing to go with you but would really prefer to recuperate some more from his confinment and perhaps be available for healing back at "home base"; Meepo is of course still questin' for his great dragon.
* Meridius is fine with Ercaius staying behind.
<Bruce> You still have two routes into the goblin-controlled part of the citadel: the eastern route, which you took yesterday to the rooms with barrier walls, and the northern route, out of the kobolds' temple.
<Meridius> Lets try the northern route today.
<11: Mikki> Meepo. Mm. I feel a great kinship with Meepo.
* 11: Silana nods. "I'd like to try the other route, also."
<Liatus> I still wish to futher investigate the dragon fountain.
<Bruce> You can, of course, check out the fountain without going very near the goblin fortifications. Or save it for later.
<Meridius> "Perhaps we can work our way to the dragon fountain from the other side, killing goblins as we go."
<Bruce> There's a thought. :)
<Bruce> Oh, something that may come up in the game...
<Bruce> In addition to regular lethal damage, there's subdual damage. You do this by default with bare-hands attacks, and may choose to do so with weapons (flat of the blade and all). In the latter case you take a -4 attack penalty, but any damage you do leads to unconsciousness rather than death. Just so you know.
<Bruce> Okay, so.
<Bruce> Northern route this time?
* 11: Silana went about an at-least token attempt at morning ablutions upon rising, washing her face and hands with a soft cloth and a piece of soap taken from her pack. She's not the stereotypical prissy, spoiled well-off city girl, but she does carry some degree of civilized behavior with her. Once she'd finished that, but before breaking fast, she settled down sitting comfortably somewhere and meditated for a bit, regathering herself as she was taught.
<Bruce> Dan, :)
<11: Meridius> It's at times like these that I lament the lack of baths in this part of the world.
<Bruce> Meepo quietly discourages the other kobolds from offering any of you some remnants from the sacred feast. He's gotten the idea that you don't like it, though he hopes you'll come to your senses soon.
<Liatus> The Northern route is ok with me from now.
<11: Silana> Quotes if you're actually speaking ICly, please? :)
<11: Silana> Er, meant that to be on 11.
<Bruce> Liatus and Silana are both back at full spell quotas. Keeping the same rosters?
<11: Silana> Oh, wait, it was. My default is wrong.
* Meridius situates his armor, weapons and gear, and makes ready to depart.
*** Bruce is now known as DM.
* DM now feels official.
* 11: Meridius engages in musical irony. "Jason isn't here to play at the moment, so now is when I put on the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack." :)
<Liatus> Yes
<DM> Karnak rises refreshed and ready to go. He's finding adventure much more complicated than he expected, but even more interesting!
* Meridius gives Karnak a stern glance.
<DM> In light of yesterday's experience, however, Karnak is prepared to take Meridius' suggestions more seriously.
<11: DM> Last couple games, the monk would roll 20+ to tumble down caltrop-laden halls, 18+ to jump over barriers, and then 1-3 on his attack rolls.
<11: Silana> Yes. Sort of like, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Turnip."
* Liatus briefly considers putting Karnak on a leash, but thinks better of it.
<11: Meridius> Which, if you think of the sort of turnips that turn up on an episode of Blackadder, can be rather disturbing.
* 11: Mikki laughs!
<DM> All right, time to go, I think, unless there's any more pre-setting-out business.
<DM> Bullerius? anyone? :)
* Meridius sets out for the northern entrance.
* Liatus follows behind.
<11: Mikki> "Bullerius."
<DM> Meepo leads you back through the hallways to the old temple chamber. There's a big door in its east wall, which he leads you past, and a smaller locked door in the north wall near that end. Three kobolds guard it.
* 11: Mikki shakes his head and eyes Bruce suspiciously.
* Silana takes up her position in line, Gnaea perched atop her pack and keeping watch all about.
<DM> The guards recognize Meepo and the party easily, of course, and one of them unlocks the door. He says, "Trap in middle of hall. Go on side." and hands Meridius a matching key. "This open door other end."
* Liatus hugs the wall.
* Meridius takes the key and says, "Thanks."
<DM> It's a 20-foot passage north to a reinforced door, and as the guard points you can see little footprints in the dust in one-foot-wide ruts on each side of the hall.
<Meridius> Can I roll to see if I can find the trap?
<DM> Sure! Search.
<DM> DC 15.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 21 (19).
<DM> Man. Yes.
<DM> You can easily trace the outlines of a trapdoor in the floor. Apparently your earlier experience with one is paying off.
* Meridius points it out to the others and moves around it to the far door.
<DM> Karnak starts to jump over it, reconsiders, and moves along the side of the hall.
<Meridius> When I get to the far door I'll try listening at it.
<DM> Righto. Listen away.
## Meridius rolled 1d20-1 = 5 (6).
<DM> You don't hear anything.
* Silana carefully edges past the trap, keeping her staff at the ready to stabilize herself if she somehow stumbles. Gnaea, taking no chances, has leapt from her perch and alighted on the far side of the trap to await her mistress.
* Meridius gestures to Karnak. "Take a listen at the door?"
<DM> Karnak readily agrees.
## DM rolled 1d20+4 = 10 (6).
<Karnak> "All quiet, I think." [DM]
* Meridius unlocks the door with the key given to him by the kobold guards.
<DM> The hallway continues north another ten feet or so, then angles to the west.
* Silana readies her crossbow once she's past the trap, and follows onward.
* Meridius moves through the door and on down the passage.
* Meridius puts the key away and readies a pilum.
<DM> Around the corner, the hallway ends in a wooden door without obvious lock. Looks just pulled shut.
* Liatus readies his sword.
* Meridius listens at the door.
## Meridius rolled 1d20-1 = 3 (4).
<DM> Karnak also listens, if Meridius will let him.
<11: Meridius> Leveling up makes one hard of hearing.
* Meridius nods to Karnak.
## DM rolled 1d20+4 = 16 (12).
<Karnak> "I hear stirring on the other side. More than one person, moving around." [DM]
<Meridius> "Okay. Lets check this door for traps."
<Meridius> Here's a search roll.
<11: Silana> It's the cheesy fanfare still ringing in your ears. :)
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 20 (18).
<DM> Meridius finds no traps.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 17 (15).
<DM> Liatus also finds no traps.
<11: Liatus> I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are no traps.
<11: Meridius> :)
<11: DM> A bold conclusion!
* Silana casts Mage Armor on herself, sharing it with Gnaea, who's resumed her perch.
<Meridius> "Lets see if we can get the drop on whoever's on the other side of this door."
<Liatus> Does the door open toward us or into the room?
<DM> The door opens into whatever's on the far side. Hinges on the left.
<11: Lon@work> Dont you guys have torchbearers to use as trap detectors?
<11: Silana> The sad bit there being that if I could wait until after the next encounter to cast it, that spell would've lasted twice as long. ;)
<11: Meridius> No redshirts in this party. :)
* Liatus whispers to Meridius, suggesting that perhaps we kick the door in.
<11: Silana> Those of us who are still L1 are Meridius' redshirts. Er, wait. Bad idea.
<Meridius> Does Liatus have any ranged attacks?
<Liatus> Other than the Command trick I used last time, no.
<11: Mikki> "The landing party will consist of myself, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy and Ensign Ricky." - "_Crap_."
<Meridius> "Here's the plan. Liatus, you throw open the door and then stand aside. Silana and I will take up positions near the door and take shots at whoever's on the other side, assuming they're unfriendlies. Karnak, hang back until I give the signal to move forward."
<Karnak> "But I...all right." [DM]
<Meridius> I'll try to provide partial cover for Silana with my shield.
<Meridius> "Ready, Liatus?"
* Liatus nods. (I presume you mean the standard QRT entry where I kick the door in then move imediately to side without entering the room so as to let the guy with the shield enter first)
<Meridius> Yes.
<Liatus> (Do I need to roll to kick the door?)
* Silana crouches, and takes aim at the doorway...
<DM> No, you can go ahead and kick open the door just fine.
<Meridius> Just make sure it doesn't rebound shut. :)
<DM> It swings open easily and slams into the wall. You can see that you're looking in from one corner of a squarish room, with goblins inside.
* Meridius takes up a throwing stance, pilum ready.
* Liatus readies his short sword, then kicks the door in, moving aside as quick as he can.
<Meridius> Initiative? Or do we surprise them?
<DM> You should roll initiative for your order of actions; you definitely caught them by surprise.
<DM> For Karnak:
## DM rolled 1d20+2 = 8 (6).
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 20 (18).
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 9 (5).
## Liatus rolled 1d20+1 = 4 (3).
<Liatus> For the love of....
<11: Meridius> So much for buying the improved initiative feat...
<DM> So it's Silana, Meridius, Karnak, and Liatus.
<Meridius> "Open fire!"
* Silana fires her crossbow at a goblin...
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 10 (8).
<DM> They're AC 15, so that's not good enough.
<11: Silana> Why couldn't I have rolled those the other way around...? ;)
* Meridius casts his pilum at a goblin that isn't the one Silana fired at.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 5 (3).
<11: Meridius> Looks like it's going to be one of /those/ combats...
<11: Silana> Apparently we surprised ourselves, too.
<DM> Karnak leaps into the fray, or will if meridius doesn't tell him to stop.
* 11: Liatus is seriously debating just pulling the door closed again.
<Meridius> I already told him not to advance until I gave the order. If he disobeys orders, he'll suffer for it.
<DM> Karnak waits.
<Meridius> Any response this round from the goblins?
<DM> Liatus can move in and strike a melee blow.
<DM> If he'd like to.
<Liatus> God help me... I do.
<DM> The goblins - six of them, all told, are surprised. Three were up and ready for action; three are struggling to get up from where they were lying around.
* Liatus closes with the nearest goblin and stabs him with my short sword.
<DM> Roll your attack. (AC 14 while they're flat-footed.)
## Liatus rolled 1d20+1 = 15 (14).
<DM> That'll do!
## Liatus rolled 1d6 = 1 (1).
* Liatus face palms.
<DM> Well, you did stab him, and he's not looking very happy about it.
* 11: Liatus bravely offers the goblin a shave and then cleverly nicks him.
<DM> Okay, initiative for the goblins...
## DM rolled 1d20+1 = 6 (5).
<Meridius> Goblins are after everyone except Liatus. Round 2 starts now, I think.
<DM> So the order is now Silana, Meridius, Karnak, goblins, and Liatus. The first three of you still get the advantage of the goblins being flat-footed - AC 14 instead of 15.
<Liatus> grr
* Meridius preps his second pilum and awaits Silana's action.
* Silana reloads and fires again, since there are still plenty of targets that aren't in melee.
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 18 (16).
<DM> Yup.
<DM> Bang! Got one!
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 5 (5).
* 11: Liatus ponders taking a level in Barbarian rather than upping to Cleric 2. I could be the Emporer's holy berserker.
<DM> *blortch* That goblin topples to the ground.
<11: Liatus> And then I could actually fight.
<11: DM> Cleric/Barbarian is one of those "now there's something you don't see every day" combos.
<Silana> "That's better."
<11: Meridius> Take a level in Fighter. Then you can have the excuse of getting training from Meridius.
<DM> Meridius, you're up.
* Meridius casts his second pilum.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 18 (16).
<DM> That will also do.
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 7 (5).
<11: Liatus> My excuse was "I'm mad as hell about these crappy dice rolls and I'm not going to take it any more"
<DM> *shplort* There goes another goblin down, pierced from front to back and nailed to his hammock.
<11: Meridius> Sure. I'm just trying to provide a conceptual, in-game excuse. :)
<11: Liatus> heh
<DM> Karnak looks eagerly at Meridius, hoping for the word.
<11: Liatus> I may do that at level 3.
* 11: Mikki laughs and laughs and laughs.
<Karnak> I've got a clever plan! [DM]
<11: Mikki> I'm reading of Karnak's heroic exploits in the previous session. That boy just doesn't learn, does he?
<Karnak> "I can really help this time!" [DM]
<11: Mikki> "Clever plan..." Oh, God, he's turning into Baldric, isn't he?
<Meridius> "Hold a moment more, Karnak."
<11: Liatus> I hope his plan is to distract the guy I'm fighting.
<Karnak> "I could move in and flank the one that Liatus is fighting, and then he'd have better odds!" [DM]
<Meridius> "Okay, move up."
<DM> Karnak bounds into the room, positioning himself on the far side of the goblin Liatus is attackin, in hopes of providing a flanking bonus...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 11 (11).
<DM> ...and it works, surprisingly enough. Liatus, you get a +2 bonus to your attack this turn.
<Liatus> Oh good.
<DM> There are now four roused goblins in the room. One of them is fumbling around the door in the north wall.
<DM> The one that Liatus engaged strikes back at him.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 12 (12).
<DM> ...but to no avail.
<Meridius> "Silana, take a shot at the goblin at the door at your next opportunity."
<DM> The other two advance to the doorway, one swinging with his little goblin morningstar at Meridius...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 15 (15).
<DM> ...also to no avail.
<DM> And the last of them tries to flank Liatus so as to assist his buddy.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 2 (2).
<DM> "Flank, not haunch."
<DM> Sic transit gloria goblins.
<Liatus> He flanked... poorly.
<DM> Liatus, you go, and remember the +2 on top of your usual attack roll.
* Liatus stabs the little bastard again.
<Liatus> "Foul beast, taste the wrath of the Imperial Presence!"
## Liatus rolled 1d20+3 = 8 (5).
<DM> It's just not a taste sensation, I guess.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 5 (5).
<DM> Okay, round 3.
* Silana nods to Meridius, moving up a little to get a clearer shot. She takes aim at the one he pointed out, and lets fly...
<11: Liatus> This is *really* starting to irritate me.
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 17 (15).
<DM> Another hit.
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 2 (2).
<DM> He's seriously wounded, but still standing.
<11: Silana> Not enough to drop him, damn.
<Meridius> Can I rush past the goblin(s) attacking me and take a shot at the one on the door?
<11: Liatus> I mean, really, I could have just stood in the doorway and thrown rocks and I'd have been more effective.
<DM> You can. You'll incur a pair of attacks of opportunity, but the way they've been hitting that may not be much of a problem.
<Meridius> I'll try it, then. They get their Attacks of Opportunity before I can attack the goblin on the door, correct?
<DM> Right.
<DM> Their attacks...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 14 (14).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 8 (8).
<DM> Sure enough, they were a bit off their game. Now you get to attack the goblin at the door.
<Meridius> I'll thrust at the goblin at the door with my gladius.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 16 (12).
<DM> A hit!
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 7 (5).
<DM> *slice* That goblin is now heaped around the door in convenient pieces.
<Meridius> Can I Cleave?
<DM> Just a sec.
<DM> Yes, you can, at the one that was trying to flank Liatus.
<Meridius> I'll pull a quick reversal and take a second thrust at the goblin attempting to flank Liatus.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 13 (9).
<DM> Good try, but not quite enough.
<Meridius> Aye.
<DM> Karnak's going to try to give Liatus the flanking bonus again.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 14 (14).
<DM> His exotic moves and strange sounds are sufficient to confuse the goblin into an opening that Liatus may again exploit later this turn.
<DM> The goblin that Meridius stabbed at returns the favor with his morningstar.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 5 (5).
<DM> The one engaged with Liatus swings again.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 20 (20).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 13 (13).
<DM> No critical.
## DM rolled 1d8-1 = 7 (8).
<DM> Liatus is, however, well and truly conked.
<DM> In fact Liatus is unconscious, if I'm reading his character sheet correctly.
<Liatus> Yes. You are.
<DM> Wait!
* DM checks something.
## DM rolled 1d100 = 8 (8).
<DM> Okay, I misfigured the damage.
## DM rolled 1d6 = 3 (3).
<DM> Three hits, not seven.
<DM> And the goblin closest to the doorway takes his swing at Silana.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 6 (6).
<DM> To no avail.
<DM> All right, Liatus, your attack.
<DM> You again get the +2 flanking bonus.
* Liatus attempts to give the goblin another paper cut.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+3 = 7 (4).
<DM> No such luck, alas.
<DM> All right, next round. Silana, you're up.
* Silana had been reloading, so she chooses to backpedal a step and fire point blank at the goblin who just swung at her.
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 22 (20).
<DM> Ooh, roll again to see if you critical.
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 7 (5).
<11: Meridius> Go Legolas!
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 2 (2).
<DM> No, but you do your regular damage.
<DM> That's another one looking quite pissed off at the bolt in his chest.
<11: Silana> And I'm wimping on damage rolls now. :P
<Meridius> How many goblins remain and what are they doing?
<DM> There are three goblins still up, one near the doorway, two mixing it up with Liatus and Karnak.
<Meridius> The one near the doorway is the one attacking Silana, correct?
<DM> Right.
<Meridius> I'll attack the one on Silana.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 17 (13).
<DM> That will do, but before you do damage...
<DM> You have to move past the other two to get there, so they get in their attacks of opportunity.
<DM> Er, I'm sorry. There's the doorway you're at, and the doorway you came in. These are on opposite ends of the room.
<Meridius> Well, I could just apply that attack roll to the goblin closest to me and call it good...
<DM> So one goblin is down where y'all came in. You moved to the other end of the room to beat the one trying to get out. You can readily move back if youw ish, but you can also do otherwise, since I described it poorly.
<Meridius> Okay. I'll move toward the one attacking Silana, then, and use that attack roll on it, as I originally intended.
<DM> Right. So they get their attacks on you as you pass.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 1 (1).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 10 (10).
<DM> I think they're unclear on the concept of "attack", really.
<DM> You then hit the goblin menacing Silana, and roll your damage.
<Meridius> A good thing, as far as I'm concerned. :)
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 7 (5).
<DM> *slice* Another one goes down.
<Meridius> Do I have a Cleave opportunity?
<DM> Silana gets a nice view of you through the space where a goblin used to be. And yes, you may Cleave.
<11: Liatus> I'm still boggling at the idea of Cleaving with a short sword.
<Meridius> I'll reverse again and attack the one that's been trying to unsuccessfully flank Liatus.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 17 (13).
<DM> that will do. :)
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 7 (5).
<DM> That's the one Liatus pricked originally. Now he's pricked a LOT.
<DM> Karnak decides to help Liatus again.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 13 (13).
<DM> And succeeds again.
* Silana gives Meridius a relieved, though still tense, grin as her attacker falls. "Thank you."
<DM> The remaining goblin's looking pretty panicked at this point. Odd he goes for Karnak, even for Liatus.
## DM rolled 1d2 = 1 (1).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 6 (6).
<DM> He totally fails to swing anywhere near the weaving, bobbing, howling guy.
<DM> Liatus, you get another +2 attack.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+3 = 15 (12).
<DM> A hit!
<DM> All that flanking paid off. :)
## Liatus rolled 1d6 = 4 (4).
<DM> And down he goes, skewered through the vitals.
<DM> There are now no goblins still drawing breath in this room. They have become as one with their noisome stores of food.
* Meridius looks around and is pleased at the sight of many dead goblins.
<DM> That's 450 XP.
<DM> Which is enough to let folks level up.
<Meridius> "Karnak, keep an eye on that door. <points at the one the goblin was trying to escape through> Silana, lets have a look around. Liatus, heal yourself if you feel a need."
<Liatus> cool
<11: Silana> Huzzah.
* Meridius also says to Liatus, "And good work dealing with that goblin."
<DM> Karnak is going to take a while to fully realize what this means (so that Jason can handle his improvements). Liatus and Silana may get their benefits immediately.
<DM> Among other things, you may want to roll the die for your new hit points right away.
<DM> (Or, if you'd prefer to wait to think about multi-classing, that's also fine with me. You _can_ proceed, it's not that you _must_.)
<Liatus> My attack bonus, Fort save and Will save all go up by 1. And I get another 0 level and 1st level spell.
<DM> This is correct, if you're taking a second level of sorcerer.
<DM> Er, cleric.
<Liatus> what do i roll for 2nd level hps?
<DM> You, the one without the owl. :)
<DM> 1d8
<DM> You'll also have 4 skill points to allocate.
<Liatus> do i still take the -1 for my Constitution?
<DM> Yes, you do, sorry.
## Liatus rolled 1d8-1 = 5 (6).
<DM> That surely helps.
<Meridius> May I make a Search roll to examine the bodies, the room, etc.?
<DM> absolutely.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 19 (17).
<DM> Loot, Meridius finds.
## DM rolled 3d10+10 = 27 (9 1 7).
<DM> roll 1d4
## DM rolled 1d4 = 4 (4).
<DM> 4 gold pieces and 27 silver pieces stashed hither and yon, and three copies of the key to that northern door.
* Liatus takes the Virtue and Doom spells.
<DM> Good choices. And do you want to heal yourself of those 3 points of damage?
<11: Silana> Okay, my BAB goes to +1, which cancels out my -1 STR penalty in melee, and makes me +3 with the crossbow. Will sve went up by one, and (if I'm figuring this right) I get 4 skill points -- 2 for the level, +1 INT bonus and +1 for being human. Correct?
<11: DM> correct.
<Liatus> Yeah, I may as well.
<11: Silana> My spells/day go to 6xL0, 5xL1 (one of those L1s being CHA bonus). I'll have to wait to learn another L0 spell somewhere, and I need to roll for HP.
<11: DM> Fair enough.
* 11: Silana rolls for HP...
## 11: Silana rolled 1d4+1 = 5 (4).
<11: Meridius> Sweet.
<11: Silana> Dayamn. :)
<11: DM> Whoa. Not bad. :)
<11: Silana> Making my total 13. :)
<DM> Well, everyone seems to be feeling pretty good about themselves at this point.
<11: Silana> And nothing happens with Gnaea until I hit L3.
<11: Meridius> We're like the group of guys who've just drank Egg Shen's potion and are now descending in the elevator to go fight Lo Pan and his goons.
<11: Meridius> "I'm getting a pretty positive attitude about this."
<11: DM> Pretty much. :)
<DM> So, you've got keys to that door in the north wall, you've searched the place, and it is thine.
<11: Meridius> Clearly Silana needs a Six Demon Bag. :)
* 11: Silana retrieves what she can of the bolts she fired, for later Mending.
* 11: Meridius retrieves his pilum, as well.
<DM> Silana gets back all but one of her bolts; Meridius gets back everything he's thrown.
* Liatus wonders if the kobold guards will want to move in and take over this room when we're done.
<11: Silana> Okay, so I'm down 3 bolts total, since I didn't bother taking the time to find the two I shot last week.
<Meridius> "Have you healed yourself, Liatus?"
<Liatus> (have I?)
<DM> Meepo explains, "We like guarding with trap door between us and goblins. One more thing keep us safe."
<DM> Not yet, BA.
<DM> You can, but you haven't actually said you are. :)
* Liatus does so then.
<DM> Roll 1d8+2.
## Liatus rolled 1d8+2 = 3 (1).
<DM> That fixes all your hurtin'.
* Liatus begins wondering what our next move should be.
<DM> Meepo is going around quietly kicking the corpses from time to time. "Dragon thieves!"
<Meridius> "Karnak, do you hear anything at that door?"
## DM rolled 1d20+4 = 12 (8).
* Liatus also listens at the door
<Karnak> "Sounds quiet to me." [DM]
## Liatus rolled 1d20+3 = 4 (1).
<Liatus> "It sounds like ... a door."
<DM> Sounds very quiet to Liatus.
* Meridius gives one of the three keys to the northern door to Meepo, another to Karnak, and keeps the third for himself. "Karnak, if you would do the honors..."
* Meridius readies a pilum.
* Silana reloads, and readies herself...
* Liatus readies his sword.
<DM> Karnak opens the door. It swings into the room, so he needs to nudge a little sliced goblin out of the way. The room on the other side is another big temple, longer east-west than you can make out, with two rows of marble columns carved in decorative motifs. Torches mounted on clumsy wall sconces fill the air with a nasty-smelling haze.
<DM> There doesn't seem to be anyone else in there but you at the moment.
* Meridius advances into the room.
<Liatus> Do I recognize what the temple is?
<DM> Meepo admires the carving, with little oohs and ahhs. The style is very similar to the temple the kobolds use.
* Meridius makes a Search pass for traps and bad things in general.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 13 (11).
<DM> Meridius, you don't find anything very interesting. The floors have no buildup of dust; there's been regular movement through here often, obviously.
<Meridius> Aye.
<DM> Gradually you establish that the temple is about 20 feet wide north-south and 60 feet long east-west. There's a single door on the south wall, through which you entered; one in the middle of the west end; three along the north wall; and one on the east end. Your scritches suggest that this last one probably leads through a single room to the second of those guardrooms you deal with yesterday.
* Liatus makes a knowledge (religion) roll to try and recognize who or what the temple is to.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+6 = 25 (19).
<DM> Liatus, you identify this as consecrated by a cult of dragon worshippers, for whom dragons were the divine power of creation incarnate.
<11: Mikki> All of you guys are level 2 now, right?
<11: DM> Yup.
<11: Mikki> Right. =)
<Meridius> "Anyone have an opinion on where to go next?"
<DM> You could do a round of listening at doors, or flip a coin. You've got five options. :)
<Liatus> Any chance that any of these doors leads back to the dragon fountain?
* Meridius will try listening at the east door first.
<DM> The east door would presumably be the most direct way.
<Meridius> "The east door, most likely."
* Silana hmmms. "We have a number of options. Perhaps there is some sign of activity beyond one of these doors?"
<Meridius> Here's my roll to Listen at the east door.
## Meridius rolled 1d20-1 = 6 (7).
<DM> Karnak also listens.
* Silana sends the feathered listening machine off to check the three doors to the north.
<11: Meridius> "It's some guy in a helmet!"
## DM rolled 1d20+4 = 21 (17).
<DM> Karnak hears nothing opposite the east door.
<DM> Right, dan, three rolls, from west to east.
## Silana rolled 1d20+14 = 27 (13).
## Silana rolled 1d20+14 = 34 (20).
## Silana rolled 1d20+14 = 19 (5).
<DM> It's quiet beyond the west and central doors. Gnaea thinks she hears an animal scuffling around beyond the eastern one.
<DM> (That is the easternmost of the north-facing doors, just to keep things straight.)
<Meridius> "Lets check the far west door."
* The owl swoops back to her mistress, who rewards her with a bit of jerky from a pouch. "There's something moving behind that door, she thinks." The sorceress points to the door in question. [Silana]
<DM> Gnaea makes a gesture with her talons, showing something scraping on the floor.
* Meridius Listens at the far west door.
## Meridius rolled 1d20-1 = 15 (16).
<DM> Meridius, you hear a bunch of people moving around over there.
* Meridius motions everyone over to the far west door, with additional gestures suggesting quietness is in order.
<DM> Karnak moves his best silent manner.
<DM> Moves in, that is.
* Liatus comes over
* Silana joins the others, keeping quiet as she can.
* 11: Meridius imagines Karnak tiptoeing around like John Parker in Buckaroo Banzai. :)
<11: DM> Something like that, yes. :)
<11: DM> Lacking the lame' threads only for want of technology.
* Meridius whispers to the party, "Lots of activity behind this door. We may want to deal with whoever it is before we check the other doors."
<DM> Karnak nods solemnly. "We must guard our vulnerable flanks and rears."
* Silana nods. "It's probably just a rat or something over there." She points to the door the owl heard something at.
<Meridius> "Monastic life has taught you well, Karnak." ;~)
<Meridius> "Aye, Silana. I think there's a bit more than rats behind this door."
* Meridius carefully examines the door for traps, locks, and other oddities.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 11 (9).
<DM> Doesn't look like there are any traps.
<Meridius> (Well, not so carefully, maybe...)
<11: Mikki> You realize that this imagery doesn't exactly improve Karnak's credility. =)
<11: DM> Well, yeah.
<DM> Karnak also searches.
## DM rolled 1d20+1 = 11 (10).
<Karnak> "This door clearly bears no traps." [DM]
* Liatus searches also.
<11: Mikki> And thank you very much for the male rape joke, Chris. I knew I could count on you. =)
<Meridius> "Lets run the same pattern as before. Liatus, you open the door. Silana and I will attack at distance. Karnak, hold until you can move in to support someone, or until I order you in."
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 18 (16).
<DM> Liatus finds no traps either!
<DM> Karnak nods. "Yessir."
<11: Meridius> I made no such joke, Mikki. You're so full of subtext! ;~)
* Liatus nods
* Meridius readies a pilum and waits for others to set up.
<11: Silana> Okay, I spent my skill points. 1 each to Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft, and 2 (making 1 rank) to Knowledge (nobility & royalty), which I probably had all along but didn't have the points for. ;)
<11: DM> Righto!
<DM> Karnak is ready.
* Liatus readies to open the door.
* Silana has reloaded and stands ready...
* Meridius whispers, "Go!"
* Liatus opens the door
<11: Mikki> Yeah, yeah, blame it on me. =)
<DM> The door opens to reveal a biiiig space. Your lantern light barely suggests walls off in the distance. The space is filled with goblins of all shapes and sizes, including very young children and very aged worn vetterns. There are a few guards in the middle of the room, who weren't very alert.
<Liatus> Oops.
<DM> The goblins in here seem to be covering the whole range of goblin life: shouting at each other, making crude clothes and tools, eating, sleeping, and you probably don't want to look too closely at some of the moving bundles off in corners.
<DM> There's a big mound of poorly maintained gear and (probably) loot along the south wall.
<Meridius> Have they seen us yet?
<11: Liatus> I wonder how many XPs we'd get for killing them all.
<DM> the guards turned as the door open, so they see you. You aren't what they were expecting to see. There are four armed goblins and three somewhat larger hobgoblins who seem to be on duty.
<Meridius> Then I guess we're committed. :)
<11: Mikki> Slaughter the lot of them. Women and children may not be worth a lot of XP, but it'll still add up, and anyway they won't do a lot of fighting back! EXPRESS ELEVATOR TO LEVEL THREE!
<Meridius> "Meepo, run to Yusdrayl and see if you can muster a force. If you can, bring them here. Go!"
<11: Liatus> Damn, why didn't I play an archer?
<Meepo> "I run!" [DM]
<DM> And off he goes.
<DM> Probably be good to roll initiative order here.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 16 (12).
<Meridius> Now there's a decent init roll.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 8 (8).
<11: Mikki> That Meepo. Shit, I really dig that guy. I hope you don't end up killing him.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+1 = 15 (14).
<Liatus> yay
## Silana rolled 1d20+2 = 12 (10).
<DM> Whoops, I forgot Karnak's bonus. Make that a 9 instead of an 8.
<DM> So, Meridius, Liatus, Silana, and Karnak. The guards are flat-footed, so their AC's a bit lower than usual.
* Meridius hurls a pilum at one of the hobgoblins.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 9 (7).
<DM> Not that reduced, alas.
<Meridius> "Damn!"
<DM> Liatus, your turn.
<DM> The guards are within range for you to move and attack normally.
* Liatus closes in and attacks one of the hobgoblins.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 9 (7).
<Liatus> for the love of...
<DM> Also not quite good enough. Silana.
* Silana fires her crossbow at a hobgoblin.
<Meridius> Do the goblins/hobgoblins have any ranged weapons I can see?
## Silana rolled 1d20+3 = 20 (17).
<DM> They've each got a javelin, Meridius.
<DM> Silana, _that_ is a hit. Damage.
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 3 (3).
<DM> That hobgoblin's badly wounded, though still up.
* 11: Silana continues her streak of great to-hit rolls and sucking damage. :P
<DM> Karnak decides to try the flanking thing again, and moves near Liatus and attempts to distract the hobgoblin.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 1 (1).
<DM> Miserably.
<DM> Okay, now, rolling initiative for the guards...
<11: Mikki> Karnak is like the Three Stooges rolled up into one.
<Meridius> "Karnak, back up and remain with Silana and cover her until the goblins have expended their javelins or are engaged."
## DM rolled 1d20+1 = 3 (2).
<DM> So, everybody gets another shot at the goblins and hobgoblins with their guard down.
<DM> Meridius.
* Meridius advances into melee range, draws his gladius and thrusts at one of the hobgoblins.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 8 (4).
<Meridius> "Stercus!"
* Liatus stabs again.
<DM> Liatus, without benefit of flanking. :)
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 21 (19).
<Meridius> That's a critical.
<Liatus> d20 or d20+2 for crit?
<DM> Potentially, yes. Roll again, BA, to see if threat becomes critical. Same attack roll as before.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 5 (3).
<Liatus> damn
<DM> Just a regular hit. Do your damage.
## Liatus rolled 1d6 = 2 (2).
<Liatus> damn it
<DM> That's another hobgoblin messed up. Silana?
* Silana fires again, aiming for the one she wounded previously.
## Silana rolled 1d20+3 = 13 (10).
<DM> That hits because he's still flat-footed.
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 3 (3).
<DM> Now he's flat on his back, all dead like.
<DM> That leaves two hobgoblins and four goblins up.
<DM> Karnak, as instructed, falls back to cover Silana in case of attack.
* Silana grins tensely, and pulls another bolt to reload for next round.
<DM> The two hobgoblins decide to tag-team on Liatus. One attempts to flank...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 6 (6).
<DM> ...and fails, leaving his partner to attack normally.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 15 (15).
<11: Meridius> Is it possible to make a flank maneuver and still attack in the same round?
<Liatus> My AC is 15
<11: DM> I belive it's one or the other.
<DM> Okay, so the hobgoblin actually hits, doing...
## DM rolled 1d8 = 1 (1).
<DM> ...just heaps and heaps of damage, yessir.
<DM> The goblins throw their javelins, two each at Meridius and Silana.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 11 (11).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 8 (8).
<DM> Meridius' manliness is obviously too much for them.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 16 (16).
## DM rolled 1d20 = 10 (10).
<DM> Better luck with Silana...
## DM rolled 1d6-1 = 2 (3).
<Meridius> Can Karnak try to deflect one of those javelins, or does he not have that ability yet?
<DM> ...at least it's significant. Sort of.
<DM> Karnak doesn't have that ability yet.
<DM> The other goblins cower in groups along the far walls, trying to get very much out of the way. Some shout insults at their comrades who aren't attacking very well.
<11: Silana> Damn, he just barely hit me.
<DM> Next round.
* Meridius thrusts at the nearest hobgoblin.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 21 (17).
* 11: Liatus does note that, given that the Deflect Arrows thing is something every monk gets at lvl 2, this would be a cinematically interesting time for him to first use it.
<DM> That is a hit. :)
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 7 (5).
<DM> There goes down one of the hobgoblins in a spray of ichor. Just one left.
<DM> Liatus, your turn.
<Meridius> Is the last hobgoblin within range of a Cleave?
<DM> Oh, yes, he is.
<DM> Wait.
<DM> He is not, but one of the goblins is.
<Meridius> I'll Cleave at one of the goblins, then.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 18 (14).
<DM> Another very solid hit.
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 6 (4).
<DM> Another cloven goblin.
<DM> That brings the defenders down to three goblins and one hobgoblin now.
<DM> Liatus, your turn.
* Liatus stabs the hobgoblin again.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 22 (20).
<11: DM> By the way, I trust folks will say when they need to be wrapping up.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 11 (9).
<DM> BA, roll again to see if you critical.
<DM> Nope, just regular damage.
## Liatus rolled 1d6 = 6 (6).
<DM> *smash* That hobgoblin is down with his face stove in.
<DM> Silana, you have your choice of three goblins.
* Silana directs her next bolt at the goblin whose javelin struck her, seeking to return the favor.
## Silana rolled 1d20+3 = 20 (17).
* Liatus begins screaming shit in Draconic about how doom and destruction have come.
## Silana rolled 1d8 = 2 (2).
* 11: Meridius waits for Liatus to yell, "Who wants some!?" :)
<11: Silana> And the pattern continues. :P
<DM> Karnak sees his opening and rushes forward for an attack.
## DM rolled 1d20 = 14 (14).
<DM> And comes perilously close to hitting. Would have worked as an opening blow.
<Liatus> (Lets pretend he raced up to the goblin and bitch slapped him.)
<DM> Two of the goblins try working as a pair on Meridius. Going for the flanking bonus...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 2 (2).
<DM> ...Pfeah. Going for the regular attack...
## DM rolled 1d20 = 16 (16).
<DM> Hey, a hit.
## DM rolled 1d8-1 = 2 (3).
<DM> For all the good it does him.
<DM> And the remaining goblin charges Liatus, shouting the equivalent "I take you with me!"
## DM rolled 1d20 = 2 (2).
<DM> I think he's demoralized.
<DM> Next round.
<Liatus> Clearly the result of my Wrath of the Imperial Presence schtick.
<DM> Clearly.
<DM> Meridius, you're up.
<Meridius> I thrust at the nearest available goblin guard.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 23 (19).
<Meridius> I critical!
<DM> Well, it's in threat range. Roll again to see.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 19 (15).
<DM> Yup!
<Liatus> Woo!
<DM> So, double your normal damage.
<Meridius> So it'd be 2d6+4?
<DM> Yup.
## Meridius rolled 2d6+4 = 13 (4 5).
<DM> Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the world's deadest goblin. and yes, you may Cleave.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+4 = 20 (16).
<DM> A hit. :)
## Meridius rolled 1d6+2 = 5 (3).
<Liatus> Damn dude.
<DM> Blammo.
<DM> There is now one (1) goblin left, the one who made his vain attack on Liatus.
<DM> Liatus, return the favor. :)
<Liatus> As the goblin charges at me and makes his less than stellar attack, I stab him.
<11: Elmer Fudd> One gobwin weft. [Meridius]
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 11 (9).
<Liatus> Damn it.
*** Signoff: Krister (EOF from client) at Sat Jan 18 3:23 PM PST.
<11: Liatus> OK, clearly my ability to hit a fucking barn with a shot gun is entirely dependent on saying nothing more than "I stab him" before rolling.
<DM> Silana, want to take a shot at him?
* Silana sees the goblin charge Liatus, and opts for a more certain attack than firing a crossbow bolt into a combat. She points her finger and utters an arcane word...
## Silana rolled 1d4+1 = 4 (3).
<DM> *zorch*
<DM> Down goes the last of the goblins prepared to fight.
<DM> You're now looking at a room with about forty terrified goblins trying out various gestures they hope mean "I surrender".
<DM> Karnak circles the room, displaying his prowess for them.
<Meridius> Are there any other exits out of this room?
<DM> Yes, there's a door in the southwestern corner, one in the north wall, and one in the northwestern corner, set in a curved piece of wall. Probably another tower chamber there, like the one you came in to the citadel through.
<11: Silana> SuzyQ is home, and I'll need to wrap up fairly soon (like around 7 EST).
* Liatus continues his fire and brimstone act.
<11: DM> Sounds good to me, Dan. I'll call a pause if the PCs are about to get into a major fight.
<Meridius> "Lets herd these goblins into the center of the room, away from the doors."
<DM> Liatus, the goblins seem very convinced.
* Liatus begins herding.
## DM rolled 3d4 = 11 (4 3 4).
## DM rolled 7d10 = 35 (10 5 4 1 8 5 2).
<DM> The guards had apparently been in the midst of counting out pay or something of the sort. 11 gold pieces and 35 silver pieces are spread over a couple of table.
<Meridius> I assume we snaffle up the loot before the kobolds show up.
<DM> that's what I'm assuming. Do you want to search through the heap of loot and stuff at the south end of this chamber?
<Meridius> Yes, but after the goblins are herded to the center of the room.
<Liatus> As Meridius says.
<DM> The goblins are duly herded, and utterly terrified. Search rolls for all who wish to search.
## Meridius rolled 1d20+2 = 11 (9).
## DM rolled 1d20+4 = 12 (8).
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 8 (6).
<Liatus> grr
## Silana rolled 1d20+1 = 9 (8).
<Liatus> For the love of...
## Silana rolled 1d20-2 = 5 (7).
<DM> You find some luminous fungi growing on rusty armor, and nothing else of great interest. Badly patched weapons, sliced-open sacks, rotting produce from local gardens, stuff like that.
<11: Silana> (That last one was for Gnaea. I figured she couldn't do much worse than we all were.)
* Liatus wishes to search some more.
<DM> Certainly.
## Liatus rolled 1d20+2 = 15 (13).
<DM> Still nothing interesting, unless you're a student of rust patterns or dust bunnies.
<11: Silana> Darn, I /knew/ there was a Knowledge skill I wanted to take...
<Liatus> Any clues about the wereabouts of the people we came here to look for?
<DM> None that you can see. You're welcome to ask the prisoners, if you want.
* Liatus does so.
<Goblin crone> Big chief does not tell us about such things. Only warriors deal with outsiders. [DM]
<Liatus> That would be the guys who are bloody smears on the floor then.
* Meridius says to the goblin crone, "Yes, they do, and you've just seen what happens."
<DM> She nods sadly. "That they are."
<DM> She points at the door in the curving wall. "But maybe you not do so well against chief and his best. Maybe they hear fight, come for you."
<Liatus> "And maybe I cut the chief's head off and wear it as a hat."
* Meridius offers the crone a bloodthirsty sneer at Liatus' remark.
<Goblin Crone> "The chief has many fine skulls from brave challengers. This is not the easiest life. Not always vacation, you know." [DM]
* 11: Meridius laughs. :)
* Liatus wonders what happened to Meepo.
<DM> Meepo's only had a few minutes to run and get help, and he may have a bit of persuading to do.
* Liatus wonders if we could herd the goblins back to the kobold lair as war prizes.
<Meridius> "Silana take up a position with your crossbow and keep a bead on that door." <gestures at the door the goblin crone pointed out>
<Meridius> "Liatus, keep an eye on these goblins. Karnak, you and I will check these doors."
* Silana nods to Meridius, and finds a good vantage point. Preferably one offering some cover.
* Meridius moves to Listen at the various doors, and does so in such a way that the door in the curved wall where the chief may be will be the last one he checks.
<DM> Easy enough to move some of the junk to give yourself a great setup.
* 11: Silana nods to DM. What I was thinking.
<DM> Meridius can do this. Southwest corner to north wall to northwest corner.
* Liatus orders all the goblins to line up on their knees with their hands on their heads.
<DM> the goblins promptly obey.
* Meridius listens at the first door.
## Meridius rolled 1d20-1 = 12 (13).
* 11: Liatus orders the goblins to do the hokey pokey.
<DM> At this point Meepo comes bustling in with three of the kobold guards. He looks at the situation and laughs out loud. "Great feast to honor dragons!"
<DM> Nothing there, Meridius. The goblins watch you listen, without comment.
<Meridius> "Meepo, you mean to say that kobolds find goblins edible?"
<Meepo> "Sure! Goblins enemy. Enemy food. Dragons give us many people, yummy brain and rich blood." [DM]
* Meridius addresses the kobold guards. "You may feel free to escort this lot <gestures at the goblins> to your kitchen."
<DM> The goblins begin weeping and pleading for mercy. "We serve, we want to live, very sorry for harm warriors do, we not responsible."
<DM> The kobold guards make gestures as of sharpening knives.
* Silana looks increasingly ill at ease. The goblins may be vile creatures, but she's still not happy with this, and it shows plainly.
<DM> The goblin crone looks at Silana. "You save us, and we give you honorable service. Being prisoner is a fair thing. Where life is, there hope is. We wish to live yet."
* Meridius remains silent.
* Liatus will leave this up to Silana, but honestly isn't sure what we'd do with a small herd of goblin servants.
<DM> The goblin crone then says to Meridius, "Soldier, when your home lost, you do not come home to find your family food. Prisoners taken, prisoners can be rescued. You wish your mother and daughter to live, let us live."
* Silana swallows, and gathers her courage. Turning to the kobold guards, and especially Meepo, she asks, "We are doing your people a service, are we not?"
<Meepo> "Oh yes. Great service. Soon dragon citadel belong to children of dragons again." [DM]
<11: Liatus> We should've played an all evil party. Then this would've been simple.
<11: DM> :)
<11: Meridius> If this were oldskool D&D, the party magic-user would've tossed a couple of fireballs into the room, killing the lot of them, and then we wouldn't be having this little moral quandry.
* Silana nods. "Then do us a service in kind. Take these goblins in, to be your servants. Do not harm them. Especially do not eat them. Show that your kind can be merciful, as well as strong."
<11: Liatus> "You're going to cook them? Kewl! Can we have some?!"
* Silana should probably roll diplomacy somewhere here...
<DM> Meepo shrugs. "I tell queen you say this, but great queen Yusdrayl have own ideas. She say 'you Guardian of Dragons, no dragons to guard, what you know'."
* Meridius merely looks at the goblin crone and then shifts his view to Silana.
<11: DM> We may want to pause here so that Jason can have his say before a final decison.
<Silana> "Then perhaps we should go and speak with your Queen."
<11: Silana> And that line is probably a good ending point, then.
<11: DM> A different sort of a cliffhanger. :)
<11: DM> Will Diane tell Dr. Gerald the truth? Will Brad find his rolodex in time? Stay tuned...
* Liatus will offer to aid Silana in negotiations if she wishes.
<Meridius> Okay, how are we for XP for the second batch of dead goblins?
<DM> 750 XP for that set of goblins and hobgoblins. So 1150 for the session.
<Liatus> each or all total?
<DM> That's total. 287.5 each.
<DM> Rounded off to 287.
* 11: Silana imagines short, slight Silana looking rather determined, with that "I know I am doing the right and good thing" aura of her charisma going as she says that line. Cue the subtle backlighting. ;)
<DM> http://members.shaw.ca/ogier/treaskill.htm lists the total so far, so you can add to that as appropriate.
<11: Maya> Ah, Piffany. ;)
<Meridius> 450XP for the earlier encounter plus 750XP for this encounter comes out to 1200XP, doesn't it?
<DM> Oh, so it does.
<11: Silana> And Silana will be glad to have all the help she can get, Liatus. Especially from someone with a real Diplomacy skill, and not just faking it off CHA and force of personality. ;)
<DM> Sorry, I mis-remembered and didnt' go chec. So 300 apiece.
* 11: Liatus is listening to the Conan soundtrack, and so has this mental image of Mako's voice over going "Let me tell you of the days of *High* *Diplomancy*!"
* 11: DM laughs.
<DM> Okay, that session felt good to me.
<DM> I no doubt still made some errors in adjudication, but having useful reference charts handy helped a lot.
<Meridius> Excellent.
*** Meridius is now known as iChris.
* Liatus makes a note that his next character will have a weapon that does buttloads of damage.
<DM> And I'm glad that we had the time for both some serious monster-whacking and for some good roleplaying.
*** DM is now known as Bruce.
* 11: Silana nods. Good mix, this session.
* Liatus closes down this version of CalCli.
<11: Silana> And now I'm off to do the dinner thing. I'll leave this window and my log running in case there's anything I should see.
*** Signoff: Liatus (zum) at Sat Jan 18 4:06 PM PST.
<11: Bruce> See you!
<iChris> Meridius has much to think about in the next minute or two in game continuity.
<Bruce> Yup. :)
<iChris> And here I thought an alignment of Neutral would be the /least/ likely to bite me in the ass. :)
<Bruce> Ha ha, he said helpfully. :)
